National FFA Convention and Expo

Cashton FFA Members recently attended the National FFA Convention and Expo in Indianapolis, IN. On the trip down to the Convention students learned about large dairy and swine operations through a walking tour of Fair Oaks Farms. Before experiencing the convention students also learned about horticulture and mechanics careers with a tour of Andretti Motorsports and Heartland Growers greenhouse. At Andretti Motorsports students saw the mechanics stations and tools used to create Indy Cars. Heartland Growers showed students the acres of greenhouse spaces that are used for plant production. Students learned about the automated technologies in modern greenhouses.

At the National FFA Convention and Expo students attended many general sessions and heard from keynote speakers Diana Nyad and Jason Brown. Students also saw performances at the sessions from the National Band, Choir, and Talent. While not attending sessions students explored the career expo. Students had the opportunity at the career expo to explore colleges and career opportunities. Students also walked through the Hall of States and National Agriscience Fair to collect ideas for new chapter activities and meet chapters from across the nation. After the learning was complete students were entertained by a concert featuring Cole Swindell and Chris Young.

National Convention Day 3

Day three of National FFA Convention was the first day members went to the convention center. They explored the career fair and mall.  Later that day, all of the members that came from Wisconsin grouped together to take the Wisconsin state photo. That night members also went to a concert. Clare Dunn and Kip Moore preformed.

National Convention Day 2

The second day of the National Convention Trip kicked off with driving the rest of the way from Indianapolis to Kentucky.  The same day, members visited Mammoth Cave National Park. They learned the geology and history of the cave. They also learned about animals and plants that live inside of the cave.

2014 National FFA Convention

The Cashton FFA Chapter sent eight members to the annual National FFA Convention in Louisville, Kentucky on October 28 to November 1st. On there way to Louisville, they stopped and toured at Kuhn Manufacturing and Fair Oaks Dairy. On Wednesday, they toured the Kentucky Thoroughbred center for training horses and also attended the opening session of convention. They listened to a very motivating key-note speaker, Nick Vujicic. The next day, they went to the Joe Huber hobby farm and ate at their buffet and toured some of their land. That night, they also attended the 3rd session and listened to the President and CEO of Tyson Foods, Donnie Smith. Later that night, the members were privileged to go to the KFC Yum center and attend the Justin Moore and Easton Corbin concert. After the fun-filled night, the members then went back to the convention center on Friday and explored the Career show and attended workshops and proceeded to their last session with key-note speaker, Jane Herlong. They then traveled back overnight on the bus and had a chance to recover from the very fun and educational trip.

Two members represent Cashton in the National FFA Band

This year, two Cashton FFA members, Casey and Carrie, played in the National FFA Band. They performed at several of the sessions, and also gave a concert along with the National FFA Chorus. Casey also preformed a saxophone solo on stage at a few of the sessions. Both girls did a wonderful job.

Day 3 of National Convention

On our third and final day of convention, we attended the fourth general session, and listened to the keynote speaker, Joe Torrillo.  We than spend most of the day enjoying the career show and expo. Later that afternoon, we enjoyed a concert of the Band and Chorus.  We also attended the seventh general session. Here we listened to the story of the keynote speaker, Josh Sundquist.

Even thought some of the days were long, the Cashton FFA had a time getting to know new people and enjoying the 86th National FFA Convention.

Day 2 of National Convention

Thursday was a day that our FFA members took in some of the sites and attractions around Louisville. We started off by taking a tour of the Kentucky Derby. We toured Churchill Downs and stopped at the Kentucky Derby Museum. Later that day, our members also toured Fort Knox and the Patton Museum.

Day 1 of National Convention

While in Louisville, KY, we paid a visit to the place that is generally connected with major league baseball, Louisville Slugger. There we saw how bats are created. On Wednesday, after the tour of Louisville Slugger we headed to the Convention center and heard the National FFA Band and Chorus perform. The Cashton FFA is proud to have two of its members, Casey and Carrie, participating in the National Band. We also attended the Opening session to the 86th National Convention, with keynote speaker Rick Pitino. That night we attended a concert, with Jana Kramer and Dierks Bentley performing.

National FFA Convention here we come!

On Tuesday October 29th, six of our FFA members, Brooke, LeAnn, Janessa, Mark, Jesse, and Ryan, boarded the bus bound for Louisville, Ky., the host of this years 86th National FFA Convention.  The Cashton FFA Chapter traveled with members from the Brookwood, Sparta, Tomah, Iowa Grant and Prairie Farm FFA Chapters. Along the way, we got to know each other. Later in the day, we made a stop at the University of Illinois. We toured Urbana-Champaign research farms, which has beef cattle as well as sheep.
