FFA Week 2016 Day 4

The Cashton FFA hosted its annual FFA week Brat Sale on Thursday of FFA week. FFA members grilled hamburgers and bratwurst for middle school and high school lunches. The Brat Sale is a fundraiser for the week’s activities and is the end result of the Food Products and Processing class’s brat processing unit. During the sale the student body was given tickets to vote for teachers to kiss the mystery animal, a middle school student to wear a pig costume, and two high school students to be the farmer and cow of FFA Week. This year’s nominees for the kiss the mystery animal were Mr. Hanley, Mr. Kohl, Mr. Jackson, Mr. Zellner, and Mrs. VonRuden. Middle school student nominees for the pig costume were Paige H., Logan P., Phillip B., Bonita H., Kenny L., and Alannah K. The high school student nominees for farmer and cow of FFA Week were Kiana E., Nick L., Taylor F., Ben W., Bre H., Brandon K., Alyssa V., and Donnivan H.

The winner of the pig costume is Phillip B.

The winners of the FFA Week Farmer and Cow are Ben W. (farmer) and Nick L. (Cow).

The teacher selected to kiss the mystery animal will be revealed at the FFA assembly on Friday.

December Monthly Meeting

On Friday, December 11th, the Cashton FFA held their monthly meeting. The meeting started with discussion of Speaking Contest. Members signed up for individual and group contests. Cashton will be holding this year’s District 8 Speaking Contest. Members were also able to sign up for CDE Contests. Other topics that were discussed were Farm Forum and Half Time Conference. For more information on these please talk with Mr. King. A reminder to all members that applications for awards and degrees are due soon. Start filling them out! The chapter will also be restarting the PALS program. We will be working with elementary students on Tuesdays after school. Talk to Taylor Hanley for more information if interested. Another reminder to get dues paid. You must have dues paid to participate in any activities.

  • Speaking Contest- January 25, 2016 (No school – in service day) at the Cashton High School.
  • CDE Contests- March 31, 2016 at UW-Platteville
  • Farm Forum- February 19-20, 2016.
  • Half Time Conference- January 8-9, 2016 at Stevens Point.
  • Most degree and award applications are due in January.

State FFA Land Evaluation Contest

On Tuesday, August 25th, the Cashton FFA sent a senior and a junior team to compete at the State FFA Land Evaluation Contest at Farm Technology Days in Sun Prairie, WI. The senior team consisting of Alex Hurtz, Sierra Hanley, Josh Korn, and Nick Gronemus placed 1st in the state in the senior division. They will be competing at the National FFA Land Evaluation Contest in Oklahoma City, OK in May. Hurtz placed 4th individually; Hanley placed 3rd, and Gronemus placed 2nd. The junior team also took 1st place in the junior division. This team consited of Angela Klinkner, Trevor Hemersbach, Rebecca Gronemus, and Taylor Hanley. Klinkner took 1st individually; Gronemus took 3rd, and Hanley took 4th. Congratulations teams.

Monroe County Fair

The Monroe County Fair took place at the Recreational Park in Tomah, July 29th through August 2nd. Our members had a successful week showing Dairy, Swine, and Sheep. Congratulations to all exhibitors! The chapter officers also served a meal to all exhibitors that made it into the Junior Livestock Auction, their families, and the buyers.

Cashton FFA Soils Contest 2015

Cashton FFA holds a soils contest in the summer for Wisconsin FFA chapters. Students at the contest compete in two divisions; senior and junior. Senior competitors are more experienced and have competed in other contests where junior competitors are middle school members or are competing for the first time.

State CDE Contest 2015

On Friday April 24th the Cashton FFA went to state with members competing in the Meats and Dairy Products CDE contests. Alex, Austin, and Ben used their knowledge to judge meats. Ben placed 19th as an individual in the contest. Mark and Collin judged milk products quality in their final year of competing. Great job teams!

Green County Soils Contest

On Thursday, June 31st, members of the FFA Chapter traveled to Monroe Wisconsin to compete in the Green County Soils Competition. At this competition, members had to examine the land and soil to determine its structure, texture, slope, and best land use. Cashton was very well represented and proved that all of our hard work paid off!

Shullsburg Soils Contest

Cashton FFA received third place at the Shullsburg Soils Contest held in Shullsburg Wisconsin on May 17th. Students in this contest find the land class and best use for the land by examining soil texture, soil structure, and erosion. The Cashton FFA team consisted of Ryan, Sierra, and Alex. This is Cashton FFA’s first soils contest of the year. Cashton FFA will be competing in more soils contests this summer including the Cashton FFA Soils Contest in Cashton Wisconsin, Green County Soils Contest in Monroe Wisconsin, and the State Soils Contest at Farm Technology Days in Portage County.
