Recently, the Animal Science class learned about chicken genetics and reproduction by artificially inseminating chickens to produce chicks with certain coloring patterns. Students selected breeding pairs of chickens to produce chicks of blue, black, or splash varieties. Eggs were collected by the class the week before winter break and hatched the week the students returned from break. 10 chicks were hatched! The chick varieties matched the punnet squares that predicted the coloring outcomes. The breeding, incubating, and hatching of chicks was completed in the new Agriculture and Technology Addition at Cashton Middle/High School.
